A staff member at the Woodruff Memorial Building contacted Emory Police Department after a theft occurred at the location. The staff member left the building around midnight on Aug. 19 and returned at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 20 to find that someone had removed an external hard drive belonging to the School of Medicine. The staff member told EPD that around 15 people have access to the room where the theft occurred. EPD was not able to get a brand name from the staff member.
EPD received a call about the theft of lost or mislaid property that occurred sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 23. A male university staff member reportedly placed his bag containing his Dell Inspiron laptop under a table assigned to him at the Woodruff P.E. Center on Aug. 22 at 8:30 a.m. He noticed his bag was missing the next day and went back to the WoodPEC at 1:45 p.m. to look for his bag, but could not locate it. The laptop is valued at $700 and the bag is valued at $15.
EPD officers responded to a fire alarm on Aug. 25 at 12:10 p.m. on the sixth floor of the Clairmont Tower Apartments. Officers found room 637 had smoke in it, and determined that the smoke had been caused by a student cooking. DeKalb County Fire Department responded to the alarm but left the location upon arrival.
EPD officers cited several students for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on Aug. 25 between 6:40 and 7:34 p.m. EPD received a call after someone detected a strong odor of marijuana in the stairwell near the second floor of Clifton Tower Apartments. Officers located the room where the odor was coming from and the occupants of the room voluntarily opened their door and allowed officers to enter. Officers found five Emory students in the room. The students complied with officers and turned over their drug paraphernalia, 15 to 20 green leafy buds and other assorted items. EPD officers also observed alcohol at the location. Since no one was over 21 at the location, the students disposed of the alcohol in front of the officers. Two male students were cited for possession of marijuana, less than one ounce, and their court date has been set for Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.
