Has the whole world gone crazy or is it just me? Everyday a new disaster, epidemic, protest, child-killer…poll. It’s the end of the weirdest summer ever. Poor Britain got no summer at all. Neither did the northern United States. Just when it started warming up, the first Fall leaves fell from the trees. The southern United States had the hottest, driest summer ever – setting records for being hot as shit. Texas is in the midst of a 3-year drought and we are desperate for rain. Our lakes are drying up faster than Jon Gosselin’s bank account. It’s weird out there….and it’s Back-to-School time!
So, my son started 1st grade this year and it was was Back-To-School night yesterday, where we parents sit in our child’s classroom and listen to the teacher tell us what they are doing in 1st grade now and what they’ll be doing for the rest of the year. And it’s a lot! They’re already doing multiplication and fractions in 1st grade! And at least 3 homework assignments 4 days a week. It’s like what 4th grade was for me. But it’s a good thing, because the kids don’t have a chance to get bored and cause trouble…unlike when I was in school. I was bored out of my mind – and then I caused trouble, but that’s another post.
So, the kids went back to school and what do we have waiting for them? Swine flu. Yay. We need another disaster like we need more of Spencer and Heidi. Even though I know that it’s nothing to freak out about, I think I’m still going to freak out when my son picks it up at school, (omg) which could very well happen. I talk to my son about swine flu and about how important washing his hands is, but what else can we do? It’s kind of out of our hands. Other than getting the vaccine, which I’m a little leery of, considering the last swine flu vaccine killed more people than it helped. Oops.
Oh, and the fire in Los Angeles this week? There was another disaster. My heart hurt watching my other hometown being choked by smoke and surrounded by flames. California needs a disaster right now like the Octo-Mom needs another baby…
…but it’s Labor Day weekend and after being back to school for 2 whole weeks, we are ready for a 3-day weekend! When I told my son that President Obama was going to be speaking to all school kids on Tuesday, his eyes got big. “Too all school kids?” he asked excitedly – not because he’s a big Obama supporter (because at 6 years old, politics isn’t really on his radar), but I could see that he felt special, like the President would be speaking to him and his friends directly.
Of course, I knew as we were talking, that he wouldn’t be speaking to all school kids, because some kids would be kept at home that day in protest. Other children would be sent to study hall while the speech aired and still others’ school districts had decided to not show it at all because of parent outrage. It’s just un-American in every sense of the word. Now, I know Democrats protested when Reagan and George Bush the First (as I like to call him) gave similar addresses to schoolchildren, but how freaking long ago was that? Who’s even bothered to since then? And why are Republicans protesting something that Republican presidents started? Obama’s message to kids on Tuesday will include the importance of education and staying in school. What are you saying to your children by keeping them home?
I agree that Obama has taken on too much too soon, but how can we possibly blame him when we gave him such a shitty job to do? I mean, the poor man has the weight of the world on his shoulders and the world ain’t doing so good right now. In just 9 short months, he has tackled a lot. Good for him. Isn’t it better than 8 years of domestic stagnation and global warfare? I’m sorry, I will always choose a productive, well-meaning, empathic President over a lackadaisical one who never fails to remind us how hard a job it is. Ok. It’s hard, but someone’s actually hauling the dirt and building a future instead of warmongering. Peace always wins in the end.
We need peace. We need love. I don’t know about you, but I can’t take another bombing in Iraq or Afghanistan! I’m so sick of hearing details of another gruesome murder! I can’t stand another tragic tale of child abduction! I don’t want anyone else to die from swine flu! I don’t want anyone else to die of a drug overdose! Or at the hands of the drug cartels! Or at the hands of Dr. Murray! I’m going to be sick if I hear about health-care anymore! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I want to scream!!! Make it stop!!!
Face it. We can’t win. None of us. We all lose, because we spend all of our time on this precious Earth in this fleeting life, fighting and arguing, killing and hurting – we have never learned to get along. We have never learned to live peacefully without killing each other one way or another. This is the biggest disaster of all. Go us!
I must say…it has been awhile since this name came up. The last the world really seen Maia was during my teen days (1995-1999) during her role on LL Cool J’s “In the House”. She was an inspiration to young actresses and entertainers, like myself, in the black communities. Much like Reagan Gomez-Preston and Taral Hicks, she was talented and destined for great things. However, this recent video, makes me wonder, what has happened to black actors and actresses (my era) who were really doing something positive, This is a disappointment to me. While some parts of this is funny like her telling the guy she would get Brad Pitt to smack him, other parts make feel sorry for her and her kids. What led her to this and who are the people left in her life that can help her deter away from this addiction and struggle she is going through. She has got to want to come out of it. Hopefully she will see the light. I know I do.

Y empezó a tocar otra cosa.
No sabe leer.

─¿Qué vas a hacer?─solloza Julian.
─Finn… Lo estoy dejando. ─Julian se echa a reir─. Lo estoy dejando. Ya he pagado mi jodida deuda.

A veces simplemente me levanto y me voy.
Menos que cero, Bret Easton Ellis.

Y me voy, y me voy, y me voy, y me voy, y me voy, y me voy, y me voy, y me voy pero aún no me he ido.

I’ve no idea when I wrote this, I found it scrawled on the back of a beer mat. Probably around July sometime:
“” I just came from my premier foot fetish party….just to see what the big deal is. There are, it seems quite a significant number of people get get off at this sort of thing. I travelled from 67 Av Queens to Midtown (the armpit of NYC) at 11pm. Midtown can be rough at this time of night.
I walked down past the well lit area of 34th St, around Macy’s / Penn Station….to get to the address::: W 38th St, between 8th and 9th avenues. There are horrible smells here, freaks, hobos, whores. I saw a lady shouting at the sky ” I’ll pay you back God, I fuckin swear I will, just get me some more man…” not a soul to be seen around her. She was probably coked out of her mind, speaking to her own demons in her head. I wondered what sort of person she is like without the drugs and pimps, where did she come from? What sort of an upbringing did she have? Sometimes it doesn’t matter, it seems some individuals are destined to end up in a situation. People like her are their own worst enemies.
I saw a guy whose ear melted on to his cheek, it looked weird, I couldn’t help but look. He held a small battery operated radio and sang out of tune with whatever was on. This is the real seedy Gotham city man. Steam rose from the underground, those fluorescent flags and barriers at street corners. The filthy dirty heat from the subway grates on the street. The smell of dried piss on these streets is almost unbearable. You feel warm but imagine the fucking filth!!!I deliberately tried not to wear flip flops or sandals because the dirt would disgust me at the end of the day.
Walking down these dimly lit streets I felt weird; not scared. I was looking around, smelling, and experiencing these elements as if I was watching a film. It didn’t even occur to me I could be shot, beaten, kidnapped, tortured, knived, pimped, raped….I was a single white female wandering these streets alone. Was I fucking insane? No -, and yes….
I’m in Union Square station now waiting for the R train to Brooklyn. It’s nearly 2am. I had a weird interesting time at that party…I did nothing but drink straight vodka and martinis. I saw things in that fetish party I’d love to repeat but you’d rather not read. I let a stranger suck my toes, he gave me a foot massage. I certainly was not dressed sexy, seductive or whatever. To be honest I was merely curious and wanted the free booze and weed. He whispered something really freaky in my ear “I love your arches baby…” in his painfully German accent, and leaned over. I turned and said, in my smokey voice, like a lady, “fuck you.”. I poured the remainder of my tasty martini over his tacky beige khakis (oh yes he did!) and strutted out of there at a moderately fast pace.
What a weird, freaky, dimly lit, obsessive, drug laden, erotic scene. Definitely the most bizarre experience in NYC I had. I try not to let fear dictate how I live my life. I try to be sensible and headstrong when needs be. I try to experience as many different facets of life as humanly possible, I try to enjoy every day. What happens in a day happens. Tomorrow is always another day, a new start, a clean slate. Changing things has to be your decision, the small things make a difference.
I certainly do not ‘get’ that foot fetish thing. It was nice getting a good foot massage, but I realized that German was looking for something a bit more, eh, explicit. I can’t even imagine my poor feet being subjected to whatever he had in mind. The other girls at the party are predominantly foot models, who pose for weird foot porn websites and are like foot porn celebrities, and therefore in great demand at these parties. They earn an average of $400-$500 a party plus tips. I wasn’t there for the money, I didn’t even know there was any money exchange involved, I just thought it was a house party…? When I saw a guy had a girl a thick fold of $20s, I was taken aback; “fuck! what is this a fucking brothel or something?”.Not my scene. Not my scene at all.
It’s 4am now, just on the 7 train back to Queensboro Plaza. I have to call Social Security again to see if they have sent my card to my employers in Long Beach. Mr P is holding my Social Sec card at a ransom of $100..?fuck that, he can kiss my fat Irish ass.
A couple of interesting news stories, about taking metaphors a step further:
Zombies are like a disease you can’t cure, only contain. But these researchers went a step further and took the ‘like’ out, and used them as a model in a book on disease modelling. Also, i didn’t know you could have a question mark as part of your name. That opens up all sorts of nifty possibilities for getting my name legally changed….
And one mother argues that parents of newborns are like addicts in their obsession over their babies —which would mean that a baby is a drug. Suddenly, Children of Earth doesn’t seem so ridiculous, does it?
A staff member at the Woodruff Memorial Building contacted Emory Police Department after a theft occurred at the location. The staff member left the building around midnight on Aug. 19 and returned at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 20 to find that someone had removed an external hard drive belonging to the School of Medicine. The staff member told EPD that around 15 people have access to the room where the theft occurred. EPD was not able to get a brand name from the staff member.
EPD received a call about the theft of lost or mislaid property that occurred sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 23. A male university staff member reportedly placed his bag containing his Dell Inspiron laptop under a table assigned to him at the Woodruff P.E. Center on Aug. 22 at 8:30 a.m. He noticed his bag was missing the next day and went back to the WoodPEC at 1:45 p.m. to look for his bag, but could not locate it. The laptop is valued at $700 and the bag is valued at $15.
EPD officers responded to a fire alarm on Aug. 25 at 12:10 p.m. on the sixth floor of the Clairmont Tower Apartments. Officers found room 637 had smoke in it, and determined that the smoke had been caused by a student cooking. DeKalb County Fire Department responded to the alarm but left the location upon arrival.
EPD officers cited several students for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on Aug. 25 between 6:40 and 7:34 p.m. EPD received a call after someone detected a strong odor of marijuana in the stairwell near the second floor of Clifton Tower Apartments. Officers located the room where the odor was coming from and the occupants of the room voluntarily opened their door and allowed officers to enter. Officers found five Emory students in the room. The students complied with officers and turned over their drug paraphernalia, 15 to 20 green leafy buds and other assorted items. EPD officers also observed alcohol at the location. Since no one was over 21 at the location, the students disposed of the alcohol in front of the officers. Two male students were cited for possession of marijuana, less than one ounce, and their court date has been set for Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.
Procrastibate feels a certain responsibility to make sure that our coke head readers are kept up to date on the latest news stories surrounding their drug of choice.
To our cocaine using friends: Have you been feeling like you’re on a short leash recently? Have you been passing out on your dog’s bed? Have you been hiding bones in your back yard after you finished eating? Or have you simply started shitting outside? We have the answer to why you’ve been acting this way.
One third of all cocaine is apparently laced with a dangerous veterinary medicine called levamisole. This drug, which is mostly used to de-worm livestock, actually enhances the effect of cocaine by giving users a more intense high by increasing levels of dopamine. But, don’t get excited yet. It also lowers you immune system leaving you open to fatal infections. Some rapper rapped:
This new drug
will get you high
But motha fucka
You’ll also die
